DreamCloud Premier Rest Mattress Review: A Top-Tier Choice For Comfort

When my fiancé and I got engaged and were beginning to set up our first home together, a king bed was at the top of our wishlist. Because I had just gone through the exercise of updating my New York City apartment, I knew I wanted a very soft bed with a hybrid composition and a pillow top (I have experience with the Avocado Luxury Organic Ultra Plush Mattress and love it). My fiancé, on the other hand, prefers something with a significant amount of back support and more of a hard memory foam feel. To me, that feels like sleeping on a stack of bricks, so we had our work cut out for us. After doing weeks of research, I landed on the DreamCloud Premier Rest Hybrid because it seemed to check all the boxes.

The mattress still has springs and a pillow top, but it also has memory foam layers. I was also confident that this mattress—DreamCloud’s thickest, at 14 inches tall—had enough layers to provide the luxurious feeling I’ve enjoyed at hotels we have stayed at. So we decided to take the leap and order it. In this DreamCloud Premier Rest review, I’m going to tell you how it performed for us (and our very different mattress preferences) and who else I think would like it after several months of sleeping on it.

The DreamCloud Premier Rest Mattress (Queen)

Type: Hybrid | DreamCloud’s firmness rating: Medium-firm (6.5) | Trial period: 365 nights | Warranty: Lifetime | Height: 14 inches

  • Those who are looking to invest in a more luxurious option
  • Hot sleepers

Skip if:

  • You prefer a very hard mattress
  • You do not enjoy a pillow top mattress
  • Having an organic mattress is important to you

DreamCloud Premier Rest Construction, Firmness And Feel

Many Layers Of Foam And Springs For A Luxurious Feel

The DreamCloud Premier Rest comes in a hybrid or all-foam option. I tested the hybrid model, which includes springs, different types of memory foam and a stability foam layer at the bottom. DreamCloud utilizes CertiPUR-US-certified foam for this mattress, which is free from ozone depleters, heavy metals (including mercury and lead), prohibited phthalates, PBDEs (polybrominated diphenyl ethers) in fire retardants and formaldehyde, plus it’s low in VOC (volatile organic compound) emissions.

  • Cover: A pillow top quilted with cashmere, made to be breathable
  • Comfort layer: A 4-inch layer of CertiPUR-US gel memory foam designed to help draw heat away from the body and provide adaptive support
  • Transition layer: 2 inches of CertiPUR-US gel memory foam to help provide spinal support and transition to the springs below
  • Support layer: 8 inches of innerspring steel coils, which are thicker near the edges of the mattress for edge support
  • Base layer: A thin layer of CertiPUR-US standard foam to provide a foundation for the rest of the materials

When you initially get on the DreamCloud Premier Rest Hybrid, the mattress feels relatively firm, but the plush pillow top provides softness as you settle into bed. DreamCloud says it’s medium-firm, but I think it’s definitely softer than a traditional hybrid mattress. You feel more like you’re slightly “in” the mattress than “on” it, but it does not have a sinking feeling by any means.

In my experience, the pillow top cushioned my body’s curves and felt especially nice on my runner’s legs. My fiancé sleeps on his side, and I shift around at night from starting on my back to ending up on my stomach. We both felt the mattress cushioned and supported us nicely. I also have neck issues, probably because of my terrible habit of stomach sleeping, so I was happy to find that this mattress doesn't exacerbate those issues. (It’s worth noting that I am around 5 foot 3 and my fiancé is 6 foot 3.)

DreamCloud Premier Rest Mattress Features

A Mattress Fit For The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants

The thing that surprised me the most about this mattress was how it has been a very happy fit for two completely different sleepers. Unboxing the mattress was the most difficult part, which is to be expected for the thickest mattress that a brand offers. Once we got the box into the room and brought the mattress out, it was smooth sailing.

Although I’ll get into more details around this mattress, as a highlight, the mattress came with little to no odor. See how it performed in other areas below.

Pressure Relief

I have found this mattress offers great pressure relief. I surprisingly do not feel pressure buildup when lying down on this mattress along my joints—and it has not aggravated my neck and lower back pain.

Cooling

The mattress is surprisingly cooling. I believe this for two reasons: First, I rarely wake up sweaty or too warm at night, and we use a very high feather count down comforter year-round. We also have a mattress pad that adds additional layers. Second, the pillow top of the mattress has a covering that is made out of a breathable cashmere blend, which I think helps keep the bed ventilated.

Motion Transfer

Constantly waking up from my fiancé shifting around during the night was definitely a concern when thinking about our future home together. He often flips from side to side and can make a good amount of movement travel across the mattress. In this bed, his movements have never woken me up (which is what usually happens on other mattresses).

Support

The support in this mattress is definitely softer on the edges, but the center support is great. I think this mattress has moderate edge support for both sitting and lying down near the side of the bed. This is surprising to me, considering the coils around the edges of the mattress are supposed to be stronger. In terms of overall support, DreamCloud says the Premier Rest can support up to 1,000 pounds.

Ease Of Movement

Ease of movement, or how responsive a mattress is, can be really important for those who change sleeping positions a lot in the night and/or who want to be able to move around on the bed easily. I definitely do not feel stuck in this mattress and can easily get out of bed (even though I don’t want to).

About DreamCloud

DreamCloud is a part of the Resident Home company umbrella, which also owns brands like Nectar and Awara. There are three DreamCloud mattress models, the flagship original DreamCloud, the DreamCloud Premier and the DreamCloud Premier Rest. The Premier Rest is the most luxurious model in the line.

Shipping And Delivery

Shipping and returns are free, and the brand says mattresses arrive within 1 to 2 weeks. The brand does not offer white glove delivery for the Premier Rest, so it arrives compressed in a box. I recommend having someone help you set it up.

Trial Period And Returns

DreamCloud has a 365-night trial period, and free returns can be made starting 30 days after delivery. If your mattress has remained unopened, you are able to return your mattress immediately, up to 90 days after delivery. The mattress must be in donating condition.

Warranty

The DreamCloud Premier Rest has a lifetime warranty. This warranty includes deterioration like a visible indentation in the mattress of more than 1.5 inches. If there are any physical flaws, such as material degradation or manufacturing defects, those are also covered, according to the brand.

Other Mattresses From DreamCloud

The DreamCloud Mattress (Queen)

This is the base model in the DreamCloud line of mattresses. It features the same cashmere blend cover, gel memory foam and individually wrapped coils. However, it is 2 inches thinner than the Premier Rest and does not offer as much support or cooling.

The DreamCloud Premier Mattress (Queen)

The Premier is the middle-tier model from DreamCloud. It’s 13 inches tall and has eight layers, including the cashmere blend cover, gel memory foam and individually wrapped coils. It offers more support than the original model.

Final Thoughts

If you are interested in a softer mattress, but you have someone else that you share the bed with to please as well, this may be the right mattress for you. I found this mattress to be soft and luxurious but also supportive. It performed great in areas that are often important to couples, with strong motion isolation, cooling abilities and overall comfort for different sleeping positions and body weights.

The one thing I will say that gave me a bit of pause was that I am in the process of trying to detox forever from all harsh chemicals in my life, and this mattress is not organic, which I do think about occasionally. Also, although I found it to be supportive overall, it didn’t have standout edge support—which can be important for some couples and people who need a strong mattress perimeter.

How I Tested The DreamCloud Premier Rest

I have had this mattress for 9 months and have focused my testing on overall comfort, motion isolation, cooling, pressure relief, ease of movement, support and edge support. I have spent both cool and hot months with this mattress and have also changed out my bedding during this time as well. I am a lightweight sleeper who sleeps on my back and stomach, and my fiancé is an average-weight sleeper who sleeps on his side—so I made sure to include both our opinions in this review as well.

My Expertise

I am director of partnerships for Forbes Vetted and work extensively in the commerce space managing brand partnerships within our content—all to deliver excellent brand and reader experience. I’m also someone who needs at least 9 hours of sleep per night, so I have spent a good amount of time in bed and don’t take the task of choosing a comfortable mattress lightly. Beyond that, I’m a graduate of the Medill School of Journalism for my bachelor’s and master’s degrees, and I was the first employee at Forbes Vetted. I also love to provide product recommendations for friends and family in my free time.

What Firmness Level Is The DreamCloud Premier Rest?

DreamCloud says it’s medium-firm, or a 6.5 on a firmness scale of 1 to 10. However, I found it to be softer than that after almost a year of sleeping on it.

How Long To Wait Before Sleeping On A DreamCloud Mattress?

The brand says you can start sleeping on your new mattress immediately after unboxing it. However, keep in mind it may take up to 72 hours for it to fully expand.
