The 5 Best Tempur-Pedic Mattresses With Exceptional Pressure Relief

A step above your average memory foam mattress, the best Tempur-Pedic mattresses excel at pressure relief and motion isolation and tend to sleep cooler than traditional all-foam beds. To help you find the best option for your sleep needs, our editors relied on their mattress testing experience and countless hours of research to find the cream of the Tempur-Pedic crop. Our favorite overall is the Tempur-ProAdapt Mattress because it’s incredibly cooling, more responsive than other models and comes in three firmness options.

We compared each configuration available to pinpoint the best models for every sleeping preference, from a hybrid pick to a more affordable option. Ahead, our top five picks for the best Tempur-Pedic mattresses. And for more Tempur-Pedic recommendations, check out our guides on the best Tempur-Pedic mattress alternatives and the best Tempur-Pedic pillows.

Best Tempur-Pedic Mattress Overall

The Most Popular Model That's Easy To Personalize

Tempur-Pedic ProAdapt (Queen)

Type: Foam or hybrid | Firmness: Soft, medium and firm | Trial period: 90 nights | Warranty: 1o years

Pros:

  • Three firmness options accommodate most sleep positions
  • Supportive hybrid model good for heavier body types
  • Cool-to-the-touch cover

Cons:

  • Dense memory foam feel can cause resistance when switching positions

Tempur-Pedic deems the ProAdapt its most popular model, and it’s not a huge surprise when you look at the mattress’s specs. It’s made with what the company calls its “most pressure-relieving material,” a proprietary memory foam that closely hugs the body to evenly distribute body weight and isolate motion (meaning you don’t feel your partner’s midnight bathroom run or pet’s movements at night). This feature makes it a great option for those who want a mattress that contours to their joints, as well as couples who are concerned with limiting motion transfer. The 12-inch tall mattress is available in three firmness levels: soft, medium and firm.

The ProAdapt is also available as a medium hybrid, which is particularly well suited to combination sleepers and those who like to really spread out while they slumber. The addition of spring coils to the mattress’s base, even in the smallest size, means better edge support and makes it a little easier to change positions throughout the night. Between the different firmness options offered and the hybrid model, we think most sleepers can find a ProAdapt configuration for their needs. ?? ???

What the reviews say: “I never knew a mattress could hug you back, that it could embrace you the way [the] Tempur-Pedic ProAdapt does and make you feel like you are essentially floating, weightless and relieved of any and all pressure points,” reads one 5-star review. “This bed has changed my sleep quality and set a new standard for what a mattress should be.” Another reviewer, who says the ProAdapt “is so different [from] a regular memory foam mattress,” writes, “It cost more than a lot of other mattresses, but I had been looking for the right mattress for a long time and I finally found it. And that alone is worth the cost to me.”

Best Budget Tempur-Pedic Mattress

Tempur-Pedic’s First Bed-In-A-Box Model

MOST POPULAR

Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Cloud (Queen)

Type: Foam or hybrid | Firmness: Medium | Trial period: 90 nights | Warranty: 1o years

Pros:

  • Offers deep body contouring and pressure relief
  • Tested well for isolating motion
  • Most affordable Tempur-Pedic mattress

Cons:

  • May not offer enough support for heavier folks

The Tempur-Cloud Mattress has many features people love about Tempur-Pedic rolled, boxed and shipped right to your front door. It’s designed for speedy delivery and simple self setup—which is why it’s priced lower than the brand’s other options. It’s also the smallest of the Tempur-Pedic models at 10 inches tall. That doesn’t mean it sacrifices the contouring relief that memory foam is known for, though. The medium-firm foam in this mattress adapts to your weight, shape and temperature when you lie down, softening to that “just-right” feel for support all night.

Like the ProAdapt, the Tempur-Cloud is available in an all-foam option or as a hybrid. Both are designed to have an accommodating medium feel, but those looking for a little more bounce and improved edge support can find it in the spring coils at the base of the hybrid.

What our editors and the reviews say: “The Tempur-Cloud has the cuddly feel of memory foam that offers great pressure relief without sacrificing support,” says senior mattress and sleep editor Bridget Chapman. “It tested really well for motion isolation, so your partner’s movements shouldn’t disrupt you. A reviewer writes, “I’m very happy with our new mattress. I needed one that could be delivered to me, so it had to be a mattress in a box. I did a lot of research and read a lot of reviews. I decided on the Tempur-Pedic [Tempur-Cloud]. At first it feels very firm, but you soon settle in so comfortably and cozily.”

Best Cooling Tempur-Pedic Mattress

Cooling Materials And Airflow-Promoting Coils For Hot Sleepers

Tempur-LuxeBreeze Medium Hybrid (Queen)

Type: Foam or hybrid | Firmness: Soft, medium and firm | Trial period: 90 nights | Warranty: 1o years

Pros:

  • Packed with cooling materials, including a cool-to-the-touch cover
  • Excellent contouring for side sleepers
  • Thick foam layers keep movements from traveling

Cons:

  • Too much sinkage for most stomach sleepers

According to Tempur-Pedic, the open-cell structure of its foams makes them sleep cooler than other memory foams, which can contain heat-trapping, sealed-off air bubbles from the manufacturing process. If overheating at night is a major concern for you, the Tempur-LuxeBreeze in the medium hybrid model could be a good choice. Tempur-Pedic says it feels up to 10 degrees cooler overnight, due to materials like the brand’s proprietary Pure Cool Plus Material. The mattress has a cool-to-the-touch cover, phase change materials designed to help absorb excess body heat, ventilated comfort foam to cycle out heat and humidity while you sleep and double-stacked innersprings for added airflow and support.

Unfortunately, Tempur-Pedic doesn’t share details of how the foams in its LuxeBreeze are made, citing the proprietary nature of the technology. However, the company confirmed the different sensations are created through additives that are mixed in during the manufacturing process. Although we think the hybrid model is the most cooling, the LuxeBreeze is also available in soft or firm all-foam options, so hot sleepers of different sizes and preferences can choose the best fit for them.

What our editors and the reviews say: “The cover is truly cool to the touch, and I was overall really impressed with its cooling abilities during testing,” says Chapman. One reviewer, who calls it “awesome,” writes, “You definitely sleep cool and the support is superior.” Another says, “This bed was a big upgrade for us, and we have already experienced sleep improvements and better comfort and support for chronic lower back issues. The other highlight for us has been the cooling technology has really worked well for hot sleeping.”

Best Hybrid Tempur-Pedic Mattress

Pressure-Relieving Foams With Coils For Easier Movement

Tempur-Adapt Medium Hybrid (Queen)

Type: Foam or hybrid | Firmness: Medium | Trial period: 90 nights | Warranty: 1o years

Pros:

  • Great for fans of slow-moving memory foam
  • Nice mix of pressure relief and support for back and side sleepers
  • Cool-to-the-touch cover

Cons:

  • Only offered in one firmness

The Tempur-Adapt Mattress in the medium hybrid model combines the best of Tempur-Pedic memory foam with the breathability, durability and responsiveness of premium spring coils. You can expect the signature adaptive pressure relief and motion isolation of the brand’s Tempur Material, in addition to a couple of features only springs can provide. Namely, better overall and edge support throughout the night, regardless of which position you sleep in. The coils’ added support also make it easier to change positions overnight (memory foam is great, but if you sink in too much it can be tricky to move).

The 11-inch tall mattress is designed to have a medium feel that accommodates the widest range of comfort preferences, but the brand says it’s a little softer than its all-foam counterpart.

What our writers say: “The Tempur-Adapt is a quality choice that lives up to the brand’s reputation. It’s also a good fit for a range of sleep positions, thanks to its strong support and slightly cushioned top,” says contributor Korin Miller in her review of the Tempur-Adapt Medium Hybrid.

Best Tempur-Pedic Mattress For Side Sleepers

Up To 30% More Pressure Relief For The Hips And Shoulder

Tempur-Pedic Tempur-LuxeAdapt (Queen)

Type: Foam or hybrid | Firmness: Soft, medium hybrid and firm | Trial period: 90 nights | Warranty: 1o years

Pros:

  • Up to 30% more pressure relief than other models
  • Cool-to-the-touch cover is removable and washable
  • Ergonomic layer with zoned support

Cons:

  • Medium firmness only available as a hybrid

As part of the Tempur-Adapt Collection, the LuxeAdapt offers the most pressure relief of any Tempur mattress. According to the brand, it has up to 30% more conforming support to cradle your curves in any position. For side sleepers in particular, the combination of contouring Tempur Material and a five-zone support layer offers deep pressure relief in the hips and shoulders plus full spinal support.

The LuxeAdapt all-foam model is available in soft and firm feels to accommodate different body types. In the medium hybrid model, the brand says more than 1,000 double-stacked springs boost pressure relief and give the mattress a more responsive feel. That’s an important consideration if you’re a side sleeper who also spends time on your back or stomach. However, we think the soft model is going to be the best fit for strict side sleepers needing ample pressure relief.

What the reviews say: “We originally tried a Tempur-Adapt medium [hybrid] firmness, and both of us had difficulty sleeping (back/should/neck issues),” one reviewer writes. “The LuxeAdapt soft firmness allows [the] shoulder to sink slightly while still supporting the rest of the body.” Another, who says the comfort “exceeded expectations,” says, “No more pressure points. My shoulders do not ache in the morning as I am a side sleeper. And for the first time it is very comfortable to sleep on my back.”

How We Chose The Best Tempur-Pedic Mattresses

To assemble this list, we examined Tempur-Pedic’s bestselling models and weighed the advantages and drawbacks of each configuration the brand offers.

  • We evaluated the key features of each Tempur-Pedic mattress to determine which models are a cut above the rest, prioritizing firmness, pressure relief, support and cooling abilities.
  • We consulted our in-house mattress testers along with Forbes Vetted contributor Korin Miller, who’s tested the Tempur-Adapt Medium Hybrid, to weave their insights into our recommendations.
  • We pored over reviews to see what customers have to say; every mattress needed to have at least a 4 out of 5-star rating.
  • We included mattresses for different sleep needs and budgets, including a model made for hot sleepers and a more affordable option.

What To Consider When Shopping For A Tempur-Pedic Mattress

Tempur-Pedic mattresses are all designed with the company’s well-known memory foam, but there are various options and configurations for its three models. Here’s what to think about as you shop for a Tempur-Pedic mattress.

Memory Foam Type

Tempur-Pedic uses several different proprietary foams in its mattresses. We broke down what each of these are below.

  • Tempur Material: This is Tempur-Pedic’s primary memory foam. You find it in most of the brand’s mattress offerings, and it’s the dominant material of our budget pick, the Tempur-Cloud Medium Mattress.
  • Tempur-ES Material: It’s the company’s softest memory foam, making it a good choice for lightweight sleepers. It conforms to your body quicker than other foams, and it’s one of the foams in the Tempur-Adapt Medium Hybrid Mattress.
  • Tempur-APR Material: Named Tempur-Pedic’s “most pressure-relieving material,” it’s found inside the Tempur-ProAdapt Mattress (our top pick overall). Its pressure-relieving abilities make it a solid choice for side and back sleepers. Tempur-Pedic also has a more premium Tempur-APR+ in its LuxeAdapt model that the brand claims is 30% more conforming and supportive.
  • Pure Cool Material: Found inside the Tempur-Breeze, this material—and its more advanced sibling, the Pure Cool Plus—is designed to draw heat away, making it a good option for hot sleepers.

Firmness

Tempur-Pedic’s firmnesses aren’t created equal—you sleep best when you pick a feel that’s well-matched to your frame size and preferred sleep style.

  • Soft: Side sleepers often benefit from soft to medium mattresses, which offer a little more cushioning at the hips and shoulders. Softer mattresses also tend to be well suited to lighter-weight sleepers, who often find they don’t sink in deeply enough to feel comfortable on firmer options.
  • Medium-firm: Medium-firm mattresses have a middle-of-the-road feel that works well for a wide range of sleepers. This is a solid bet if you’re not sure what you like, or if you and your partner’s preferences differ. When it comes to Tempur-Pedic mattresses, medium is the only configuration for hybrids.
  • Firm: Back and stomach sleepers tend to sleep better on medium-firm to firm mattresses. These sleep positions require more support beneath the hips and pelvis to ensure proper spinal alignment. Those with higher body weights often benefit from firmer mattresses, as well.

Construction

While every Tempur-Pedic mattress features both comfort and support layers, some have all-foam constructions, while others are hybrid.

  • All-foam: These mattresses are constructed entirely with layers of foam. Dense foam base layers are topped with support foam and proprietary Tempur foams to deliver contouring support and pressure relief. For those in search of the classic slow-moving feel of memory foam, Tempur-Pedic’s all-foam mattresses are the best choice. They come in soft, medium and firm models.
  • Hybrid: Tempur-Pedic’s hybrid construction, which is only available in a medium feel, combines its Tempur Material with premium wrapped coils. It means better edge support and responsiveness. For people who are new to Tempur-Pedic, the hybrid option can serve as a nice transition from a more traditional innerspring or hybrid mattress. It’s also a good choice for anyone who experiences mobility issues and might benefit from a mattress with a touch of bounce.

Body Type

Tempur-Pedic mattresses are designed for bodies of all types and sizes. Those who weigh under 230 pounds have their pick of the hybrid and all-foam models, depending on the desired level of support and budget. The same is true of lightweight sleepers under 150 pounds. Those who weigh more than 230 pounds typically do best with an Adapt or Breeze model with a hybrid configuration to ensure ample support and durability.

Price

There are lots of good things to say about Tempur-Pedic mattresses, but a great price tag isn’t generally one of them: The brand is on the expensive side. While many customers deem them a worthy investment, they may be out of some people’s budgets.

In that case, a more affordable alternative is Nectar’s Memory Foam Mattress, which is made with different materials than Tempur-Pedic’s mattresses, but still relies on memory foam and has that sink-in sensation. We rounded up the best memory foam mattresses in a separate list if you want to consider more options.

Trial And Warranty

Tempur-Pedic offers a 90-night sleep trial, which is reasonable for testing out a mattress but shorter than the industry standard. For context, it typically takes about 30 nights to adjust to a new mattress, which is what Tempur-Pedic requires before initiating a return. If you’re still not liking the mattress after this initial break-in period, Tempur-Pedic says it’ll work with you to resolve the issue, but a return shipping fee of $175 may apply. (Another notable difference from other mattress brands, many of which offer free returns.)

Note that this trial is offered on mattresses that are purchased directly from Tempur-Pedic. Purchases made from third-party retailers are subject to the third party’s trial, return and warranty policies, so make sure you’re clear on those before making any purchases. Tempur-Pedic also extends a 10-year limited warranty on its mattresses, which covers manufacturer defects.

What Is The Best Overall Tempur-Pedic Mattress?

While all Tempur-Pedic mattresses offer a high-quality memory foam experience, we found the Tempur-ProAdapt to be the best Tempur-Pedic mattress overall. It’s more responsive than other Tempur-Pedic models, yet it offers the same level of deep pressure relief and body contouring.

Who Benefits From Tempur-Pedic Memory Foam Mattresses?

Memory foam in general is a great option for anyone navigating pressure point and joint pain. “Because memory foam contours to your body, it spreads the pressure out over a larger area and can help take the pressure and stress off the hips, shoulders, back and other sore joints,” says Dr. Kevin Lees, D.C., director of chiropractic operations at The Joint Chiropractic.

Side sleepers also may benefit from memory foam. “Side sleepers typically create a lot of pressure on their hips and shoulders, since this is usually the widest part of the body,” says Lees. Because memory foam is designed to adapt to pressure and heat, it can help cushion these areas and more evenly distribute their weight. Back sleepers can benefit from the even weight distribution and spinal support as well, says Lees, even though they typically have fewer pressure points that can become painful.

What Are The Disadvantages Of Tempur-Pedic Mattresses?

Memory foam has its benefits, but it’s not for everyone. Even cooling foams are more likely to retain heat, so especially hot sleepers may find cooler sleep in a different hybrid, innerspring or latex option. Memory foam also has a distinct feel—it’s designed to give a “hugging” sensation. Some people love the close contouring, but others can feel a little trapped. If you like a more buoyant, but still pressure-relieving material, consider looking into latex mattresses.

Why Does My Back Hurt After Sleeping on A Tempur-Pedic?

To avoid aches and pains in the morning, a mattress needs to support you properly in your preferred sleep position. A bed that’s too firm or too soft for your dominant sleep style can lead to misalignment of the spine. As a general rule, back and stomach sleepers do well with medium-firm to firm mattresses, regardless of material, while side sleepers benefit from the extra cushioning in soft to medium mattresses.
