Netflix Exec Ted Sarandos’ Former Malibu Home Is Up For Lease At $65,000 A Month

Owning a piece of Malibu paradise doesn’t come cheap, nor does renting it. According to Zillow, the median monthly rent for the seaside community sits at $22,000, or about 1,500% above the national average.

While the frenzy to rent a beach retreat may not be as fervent as it was during the pandemic, the market in Malibu still encompasses Los Angeles’ most expensive rental properties. In many cases, the monthly price of renting a Malibu home can be more expensive than buying one in other parts of California.

As jaw-dropping as these prices may seem, the rental properties in question are equally as impressive, such as this 3,763-square-foot home on the market now for $65,000 per month.

Located directly along the highly coveted stretch of La Costa Beach on the eastern end of Malibu, the beachfront home sits on an oversized 60-foot wide lot. Such space affords rare amenities, most notably a private courtyard pool.

Like many homes in Malibu, 21606 Pacific Coast Highway comes with several Hollywood affiliations. Comedian David Spade previously owned the four-bedroom beach retreat until 2013, when he sold it to the Netflix co-Chief Executive Officer Ted Sarandos and his wife, former United States Ambassador Nicole Avant, for a reported $10.2 million. Eight years later, the couple sold the property for $14.73 million.

Built in 1996, the two-story beach house has undergone several updates and renovations, many of which were completed under Sarandos and Avant’s ownership.

The resulting aesthetic feels entirely modern, paired with classic touches of beach architecture that pop up across the property. Details of note include the use of shiplap on both exterior and interior walls, an array of wood-beamed pergolas and a rotunda reminiscent of a lighthouse.

The open-concept layout is made all the more airier thanks to walls of arched glass French doors that line the beach-facing end of the home, creating an indoor/outdoor feel to the kitchen, dining area and step-up living room. A partially enclosed, covered patio offers unobstructed views of the ocean.

Upstairs, the primary suite features a separate den/office, fireplace and balcony overlooking the shore.

Beach access is made simple by stairs just off the back deck. A separate bar/cabana sits off the pool surrounded by pavers.

The listing is held by Stuart Vetterick of Beverly Hills-based Hilton & Hyland.
